Hello,

Hope you can help. Getting C:\Windows\System32\1.tmp error. MS seems to be looking for this file. I researched your site and Downloaded and used Kapersky 6.0, TrojanHunter Scanner, AdAware SE and came up with quite a few entries for Backdoor.Win32.

I have rebooted after using each and following the instructions for cleanup. I am still receiving the error that
C:\Windows\system32\1.tmp is missing.

Here is my current Hijack This log file. Please note the one instance of 1.tmp in this file. I have removed this entry previuosly and it is still coming back. Obviously I missed something. :whistling:

Please help if you can.

Petronella

Dear Petronella, :whistling:

(Note: Please read through these instructions a couple of times before executing the steps in this post.)

You may want to print out these instructions or save them as a text file with "Notepad" to your desktop.
******************************

Go to Start -> Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok. Scroll down and find the below service/services:

Windows Network Latency Controller (or nlc)

When you find each service, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, under the General tab click the Stop button, then click the drop-down box to change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.
*******************

Open HiJackThis, click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (copy and paste):

nlc

Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, then ask if you want to reboot. Click YES.
*******************************

Run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entry/entries (if they exist):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapp...://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\1.tmp

O16 - DPF: Contains -
O16 - DPF: DownloadInformation -
O16 - DPF: InstalledVersion -

O23 - Service: Windows Network Latency Controller (nlc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\1.tmp (file missing)

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" button to finish the repair. Close the HijackThis application.

Next, make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files. Here is how to do this:

Windows XP

* Click "Start".
* Open "My Computer".
* Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
* Select the "View" Tab.
* Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
* Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
* Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
* Click "Yes" to confirm.
* Click "OK".

Delete the following file/files marked in blue (if they exist):

Dear Petronella, :whistling:

Thanks for posting that HijackThis log to me. Just do me a favor and "don't" manipulate the HijackThis log in any way. Copy it as you see it from the notepad application and post it in future replies to me, when I ask you for it. Thank you for your cooperation. :blink:

You may have a "Qoologic" virus on your computer system.

Please download Qoofix by Rubber Ducky to your desktop.
  • Double click on the Qoofix.zip file, and choose "Extract All". Extract the Qoofix files to the C:\Qoofix folder
  • Close all windows and programs, including Internet windows.
  • Go to C:\Qoofix and open the folder, then double click on Qoofix.exe
  • Click Begin Removal and wait for the scan to finish
  • If Qoofix finds an infection, select yes to restart your computer
  • You will now find a log from this tool, located at C:\Qoofix\Qoofix Logfile.txt Copy and paste the contents of that report into your next reply here.
Restart your computer and then please post a new HijackThis log.

In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps. :help:

Dear Petronella, :whistling:

When I saw your last HijackThis log, I had to edit the log because their were spaces between the lines and it was not in the correct form of your first HijackThis log. you had lines like this:

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program

Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program

Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {193B17B0-7C9F-4D5B-AEAB-8D3605EFC084} -

D:\PROGRA~1\COPERN~1\COPERN~1.EXE

So I had to make a few adjustments, no big deal, but I thought I mention it.

And while I am here, you said you followed another user's post and it helped your computer system performance, well what exactly did you do, because I in the dark here, but again this is no big deal. :blink:

Rambro,

I noticed the extra spaces in the log but I didnt want to mess with it.

Regarding my statement about another users post..when I did a search on Google an older post on this thread came up. I t had the same issues I had, so I followed those instructions from you folks to him. Unfortunately I did not save the original link with the users name. But it was from this board.

Ok off to Rubber Ducky to see if I have anything else.

Dear Petronella, :whistling:

I need you to install sun java software, please uninstall any previous versions of the sun java software through your Add or Remove programs.

I would like you to download some java software (i.e. good to have on you computer system, just keep it updated).

Go to the following link: http://java.sun.com/....0/download.jsp

This should bring you to a web site whose title is: Java SE Downloads

Click on the fourth download: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8. The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.

Note: The link itself should say: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8

Click on this link.

This should bring you to a web site whose title is: J2SE™ Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8

Accept the License Agreement by clicking on its associated "radio/option" button.

Scroll to the box that says: Windows Platform - J2SE™ Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8

Click on the link that says: Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and proceed with the download and installation. (Note: It should also say: jre-1_5_0_08-windows-i586-p.exe - 15.74 MB)

Restart your computer and then post a new HijackThis log. :blink:

In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps. :help:

Dear Petronella, :whistling:

I would like you to generate a "Add/Remove Software list" log using the HijackThis application. Here is how you can do this:

Restart your computer.
  • Open Hijackthis, In the lower right corner click the "Config..." (Configuration) button.
  • Once in the "Configuration" panel, click "Misc Tools" button.
  • Then click the "Open Uninstall Manager..." button.
  • The "Add/Remove Programs Manager" panel should appear.
  • In this panel click the "Save list" button.
  • Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file to its default location.
  • Then copy and paste the notepad text that appears in the generated "unistall_list.txt" file in a reply to this post.

Their may be file sharing programs in your add or remove programs list, these programs may be considered optional uninstalls, because though these file sharing programs are usually not spyware in themselves, they may serve as vehicles for spyware to get on your computer system. Also, some spyware, may install programs in your add or remove programs list.
