Video Effects Software; Red Eyes?

For school; us n00b film makers have to make a movie.
Ours, is a zombie movie.
In the movie we want our zombies to have red eyes. Instead of paying $65 per Red Contact for about 30 zombies; we just want to use a simple editing software that allows us to easily put in red eye effects in the video.

Is there anything out there that could help us that's free, or cheap and affordable?
...show me the expensive stuff if you will.
