:tazz: My stepson was downloading games over the weekend and now it appears I have the dreaded lop.com toolbar. I've already run AdAware, SpyBot S&D and now here is my HijackThis logfile. After reading various other posts, I have my suspicions about which of these entries are bad, but I need the experts to chime in and help me. Thank You very much!

I recommend you print this advice. In safe mode you will not have this page available.

Download CleanUp!.
Don't run the program, we'll do that later.

***

I recommend you to get ride of spykiller.

Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
SpyKiller
Press ‘delete this item’.
Press ‘back’

***

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press ‘open process manager’
Select the process, press ‘kill process’ (and repeat this if necessary):
C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPClient.exe
D:\SpywareGuard\sgmain.exe

press ‘back’ and 'scan'.

as you can see I'm disabling SpywareGuard. That doesn't mean it's bad, but it will stand in the way of us fixing the malware. It will turn back on once you reboot the computer.

***

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

****Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.
***

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
***

Delete the following files:

C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPClient.exe
Installed with Verizon DSL accounts. IP Insight is a Quality of Service monitor and diagnostic tool that isn't required - see here for more information. This one constantly "phones home" and wastes resource.

Delete the following folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WARN FRAG POLL ADMIN\

C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\
false positives work as goad to purchase; uses inadequate scanning/detection scheme

***

Find and doubleclick the file cleanup312.exe.

Go to option
Select ‘custom’
Put a check to:* Cookies
* Prefetch
* Temp
* All users.
Press 'cleanup!'

Once it's done, log off and log on again. This will remove files that were in use during the scan. Reboot your computer to normal mode.

***

Please do an online scan, 2 would be better,

Trend Micro Housecall
Panda online scan

Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

***

Reboot your computer once more.

***

Open HijackThis.
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
Press the button 'save log'.
Press ‘back’
Than press ‘scan’

***

Make a new log using HijackThis.

***

Download:
this file

Unizp the file to your desktop.
Doubleclick the file jobs.bat. Place the content of the textfile jobs.txt it creates here in your answer to this post.
Also post a fresh HijackThis log, and the uninstall log.

Thanks for the guidance. I actually got the problem fixed from a post to another forum, but you included some advice here that was not previously supplied. I know I had wondered about that WARN FRAG POLL ADMIN file previously but couldn't seem to find any information about it with a Google search. I will double check some of these steps when I get home from work today and post a followup log.

Thanks!

I would like to state it is not advisable to get help at two different fora. But seeing you seem to have most of the issues under control, I look forward to your info.
