I have a major problem. I read the other thread about this but I have no idea what the heck they are talking about. I was dumb enough to click on one of those "I have a picture of you" things in AIM and this thing planted some viruses (which I got out with Avast antivirus). But it also makes my AIM constantly send out the same message to others. I really need help and I have never had to deal with this type of thing before.

I ran three virus scans and it came up clear the third time.

:whistling:

I have no idea what Hijackthis is but here is my hijackthis log. I downloaded the program.

Just as an update. An executable called "NTP.exe" is appearing on my C drive (just on the C drive, in plain sight). Every time I delete it it seems to appear again. It just did this for the third time. I know exactly when it happens too, bc my Antivirus system tells me that it has detected a trojan and that is the file. How do I stop this stuff from happening?

BTW, I haven't had another spate of weird im'ing problems, could this perhaps be bc NTP.exe, the file that I keep deleting but reappears anyway, is not present? Could this be the cause?

Why does this executable keep appearing? Is there something on my comp that is downloading things from the internet? :whistling:  :help:

Another update: It did the im'ing thing again, twice today. The executable is nowhere to be found so they must not be linked....

The website you posted took me to something about HTTP transfer protocals. I couldn't find the fix. Are you talking about the Jay Loden fix? I downloaded that and it did nothing...

Its not a virus, sometimes Avast does that, just ignore it. I'm not sure about the Aim link. Just continue with the scan please :whistling:

Panda Scan turned up clean, so nothing there. I think it's because I used a program called A-squared beforehand, it got out about five different problems that Avast did not detect in multiple scans.

Here is the hijackthis log file though (the AIM fix also turned up clean). Perhaps it is clean? Please check to make sure though!

I see no malware. Lets give it a couple days to see if the AIM problem persist, and if it does we can dig deeper :whistling:

Just an update. I think I pinpointed the problem. I have been blocking a file called ntps.exe from using my internet connection. When I allow it to connect, it immediately plants two trojans on my system in two differnet places! According to the properties of the file displayed on the firewall screen, ntps.exe is located in my windows/system32 file. The problem is, I search for it and it isn't there! I am able to view hidden files too.

Now, I'm perfectly fine as long as I continue to block it, but its repeated attempts to run are slowing down my system! None of the virus programs are detecting it either!

What do I do?

Hi

Ok lets have a look

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

Create a Startup List[/u]
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post
