I am using Windows 98SE to send this. Problem is with my Windows XP Professional . It will not open up and what h appens is this. When I turn it on it will go through its paces of booting up and then I will get Windows XP logo. Then it does memory check. Then it will jump to a screen which tells me to select one of the following:

Open with Safe Mode
Open with Command Line
Open Using last good configuration
Open Windows normallly

I have tried them all and nothing seems to work.
If I try to use "Open Windows Normally" it will jump into a "Windows Setup" mode.
If I reset I get a message at bottom of screen (white text on Black Screen) say ATAPI
The next line reads "Boot With CD-Rom fail

I ran into this probem a few weeks ago in which it goes into a loop trying to open Windows normally, but it doesn't go any further than that. This will also happen if I use the reset button.

I turned the computer off for about half an hour and it came back up and no ensuing problems occurred.

However that has not worked.

Also I have received notification that File Ql1240 is corrupted.

There was an issue today when using Windows Media Player 10 that the computer could not read a certain memory Fxxxxxx.

I sincerely hope I do not have to do a format and re-install as I have a 13,000 word chronicle on my desktop.

Hi waynf...

Do you have a retail XP Pro installation cd or an OEM version?

All I have is a store-copied disc that I was sold for the purposes of installing a scann-printer as I did not get a registered Installation Disk with the computer(pre-owned)

Would you define for me OEM?

OEM disks usually come with branded machines such as Dell or HP. It stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer.

What is the make and model of the machine? Does it have a floppy drive?
