I used to use IE 6 for my web browsing, but a while back, I started frequently getting a pop-up stating that my computer was at risk. It looked like a normal system pop-up, but I was wary, so I closed it, and then immediately saw a new browser window appear, with instructions to download a security program. I didn't want to do that, so I closed that, prompting one more pop-up, which I closed, however upon closing the third pop-up, IE closed. This happened a lot, so I downloaded Firefox and was happy that it didn't have the same problem.

Except now I think it's starting to. My girlfriend was using the computer, and noticed a pop-up which led to a download screen for some security program. She didn't pursue the download either, but it's a bummer that it's happening again.

I don't have any more info, because I haven't seen it myself for a long while. Anyone heard about this?

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
