Hi alexriddell and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. You will be prompted to create a shortcut on your desktop. ACCEPT. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  • POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

So far we are drawing ablan unfortunately. On another note, I see that you are running some very good protection programs. However, I must bring the folllowing to you attention:

So far you are running Anti-Spyware Programs in the background to try and prevent Spyware from being installed on your system. This is a good thing. However, when you run more than one of these programs at a time, it can have negative consequences. The programs can end up preventing each other from removing negative changes. (One program attempts, through its shields/guards, to remove an infection while the other, also doing its job, is preventing the registry entry from being changed). So instead of preventing an infection you can become infected. The same applies when we ask you to make changes by deleting entries though HijackThis. These guards prevent the necessary changes from occurring. So never have more than one AntiSpyware Program 's Shield/Guards running at any given time and make sure that they are disabled when making changes through HijackThis.

Tau Monitor
Pest Patrol
Trojan Hunter
Spyware Doctor

Now Tau Monitor and Trojan Hunter are both anti trojans. You should really only have ONE running in the background at any given time.

Pest Patrol and Spyware Doctor both have/guards/Shields. One active would be more than adequate.

In conclusion, 1 Antivirus, 1 anti-trojan and 1 antimalware are more than sufficient and anything moe would be considered a negative instead of a positive. Your choice as to which ones you want to have running all the time.

A lot of people and more than satisfied with running 1 AV and EwidoGuard and do not run into any problems.

=================================================

There is a file in your log of which I am unsure. For that reason, I need you to submit it to Jotti's for analysis.

1. Click HERE to get to Jotti's site.

2. At the top of the Jotti window, use the Browse button to locate the following file on your system:

C:\Program Files\AOL\Active Security Monitor\ASMonitor.exe

3. Once you have located the file, click SUBMIT and the content of the file will be uploaded by the site and analysed.

4. Please provide me with the results of the analysis.

Regards,

Trevuren
