I have a HP computer. My problem is I cant get it to scan disk compleatly or defrag disk. There is 326 ram the hard drive is 58% empty. I went to tools and internet options cleared cookies and temp files. Why is it doing this and how can I fix the problem? TY. Also how do I shut programs down that are running but cant see them when U hit alt ctlr and deleate?

hi amichcpl1,

Gonna need a little more info please.

What version of Windows are you running?
Is there an error message during scandisk/defrag?

There will probably be more questions after you've answered these as can't ask the right questions without those answers ;¬)

Regards,

- Pseudopath.

In addition to what has already been stated,

Do a ctrl-alt-delete and stop everything there except systray and explorer, then try to do a scandisk and defrag. I have found many program that keep accessing the HD stopping the scandisk and restarting it over and over. AV's are bad about this. Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and many other programs can cause this.

Still does not work?

Restart the computer in safe mode then do a scandisk and defrag from there. Reboot back into regular mode.
