I don't know if these things are all related, but a little while ago someone stole my e-mail address and password and hacked into many accounts of mine including ebay where they posted several auctions in my name. I don't know what malware is on this computer, but i try to run sweeps regularly to keep this from happening. I am currently using Symantec Antivirus CE 10.1 for my antivirus program. For my sweeping programs I am using Spy Sweeper, Spy Bot, and Ad Aware. Spy Sweeper is finding the poison ivy trojan trojan.

Whenever I run a sweep in Spy Sweeper, I get a message after I qurantine the items. My start up sheild says that 4 items want to start when the computer starts. No matter how many times these are deleted, or how many times I say to block these programs from starting, i think they still do. Here are the programs:

1. Altnet Points Manager
2. P2P Networking
3. AsioReg
4. Devcon DefaultDB

I know that 1 and 2 are tied to Kazaa, but i uninstalled that a long time ago. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could take a look at my HJT log and tell me if any of these things are comprimising my information on my computer. Thank you!

Your log looks clean, as a check can you do the following.

Please do an online virus scan with Panda ActiveScan Here. You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

• Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
• A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
• A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
• Click on Scan Now! >
  If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
• From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
• Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
• When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
• I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.

I was unable to post the panda scan because it was too long. the scan found over 8000 things of spyware, which all looked to be cookies. there were zeros next to everything else. i could e-mail you the .txt file if that would help.

Which antivirus program should I be using and why...My current symantec antivirus corporate edition 10.4 or the panda product? please let me know...Thanks!

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

The tool above will clean out all the cookies etc, run it and try the active scan again. It may also be worth doing the following.

Step #1 - Create a New Restore Point

Go - Start>Programmes>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore>Create a New Restore point.

Step #2 - Flush All Previous Points

Go - Start>Programmes>Accessories>System Tools>Disc Cleanup>"More Options" Tab>Remove All But Most Recent Point.

The Panda scan is only an online scanner, it does not protect you from viruses. We use the online scans as they are not affected by any malware you may have. Assuming your licence for Norton is still valid you would be best to keep it, if it is not then there are other alternatives which are not so resource hungry that you could use.
Let me know if you wish to change.

By the way you can attach the big Activescan log if you wish.

i know...but panda also has an antivirus program i noticed. i get symantec for free through the military, but it is resource hungry. i don't mind paying for something. is there something out there that is just as good if not better than symantec?

and my firefox is all messed up since i ran that program...the web pages look all messed up. please advise.

There are alternatives to Symantec, it all depends on what you want it to do. If you want an all in one package then Kaspersky would be my personal choice, or you could use seperate packages, I personally use NOD32 for antvirus and Kerio for my firewall, there are also free programs available check out the link in my signature.
Please remember this is my personal choice, you should use the free trials the AV companies offer to decide which one you like, do not run more than one AV program at the same time.

I'd be suprised if running active scan messed firefox up as you have to use IE to run the scan, there was a recent update for firefox you can check by clicking help-check for updates from the firefox tabs. Try the update and let me know what happens.
