Curious, can you get into safe mode then?

i cannot get to the safe mode - the one time that it went beyond any screen at all - i thought it was o.k. and let it run . i tried several more times , thinking i would press the f 1 button once it came on - but it starts and shuts off right away .

Sorry, are you saying that if just after the BIOS if you type F8 it does not offer you the safety mode options?
If you cannot do it the above way, pull out the powercord in the middle of starting up, replug and restart comp, that should automatically put it into safemode options.
If you cannot get into safemode by either of the two above mentioned ways, can you get into BIOS?

.......i do not get a chance to do anything - when i push the on button ; you can hear the unit starting - then , it shuts itself off
