You can try this fix from microsoft.

Kelly's korner has a reg file that you save in notepad with the reg extension and double click on the file to install. It is #10 on the list and it is for both home and pro editions.

Doug Knox says this.

If you're CD's don't autoplay and the Autoplay tab is missing from the Properties (right click the CD drive and select Properties), then click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Scroll down to Shell Hardware Detection and make sure this service is Started and set to Automatic.

What program are you using for cd and dvd burning. What is the firmware of your software? Is your writer firmware the DC24 version or the FF24? If it is the FF you might try switching to the DD24 firmware.

Heres H-P checking utility.

A problem that a lot of forums mention is the dvd media being used and the speed your writing at. Try switching to a lower write speed(8x or 4x) and see if you can find Taiyo Yuden DVD's to burn to.

Heres the dvdinfopro software to find out information on your drive and media.

Thanks for the info but i am not having any problems burning. I just want the auto run to work so I don't have to keep using start>run to get a cd or dvd to start by itself.

Right click the drive, click properties, autoplay, put the dot in the opposite one, click restore defaults, click apply

If you reboot and it recognises the disc, try another brand
