Hello, wonder if someone could help me please. Last week I had XP Home installed on my PC. Since I got it home the pc automatically restarts when I shut down. The repair man said it shut down ok in his workshop so it must be something I'm doing. He did suggest that it maybe some hardware ive added to the pc. I have a Kodak digital camera, monitor, keyboard, mouse, epson printer/ scanner, plug in 4 way usb port, speakers, I think thats the lot. I have taken each piece of hardware out, one at a time, and tried shut down but it still starts up automatically. The only piece of hardware I didnt try removing was the mouse cos I didnt know how to work the pc without it! Sad, but true. Hope someone maybe able to help me. Thank you in anticipation..Lizzie :tazz:

Please Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and post your log as a new topic in the Hijack This forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Hi Lizzie:

It doesn't appear that you have any malware/spyware. How is it running? Are you still having problems? What kinds? Same as before?

You may trying running ccleaner. You can get it from majorgeeks.com

Hello again Coachwife,
Thank you for your reply and I'm pleased I do not have any ''lurgies''!!
However, the same problem persists: PC atomatically restarts on shut down.
I will go to majorgeeks and try the cleaner as you suggested and will get back to you.
Thanks again.

Hello again Coachwife, hope you are well.
I downloaded and ran ccleaner. I let it fix or delete all that it came up with in Windows, Applications and Issues. I then rebooted. But alas, the computer still starts up automatically after shut down. back to you for the next step if you don't mind. I'm getting scared of having to switch the pc off at the wall socket all the time. Hope I'm not doing any damage by doing this, but I dont know what else I can do to close it down.
Thanks again,
Lizzie

The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but we suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MoneyAgent] \"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Money Express.exe\"
(Description: Microsoft Money agent. If you are not using this feature, removing it will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
(Description: Microsoft Office Startup Assistant. This program loads some Microsoft Office components into memory, even if you're not currently using MS Office. Removing this unnecessary program will free up a considerable amount of system resources. )

Is this your ISP?

http://www.ripe.net/...o_search=Search

Let's also try this:

Download the free VX2 Cleaner here[list]
Close Ad-Aware SE build 1.05 and Ad-Watch (if running)
Install the VX2 Cleaner
Start Ad-Aware SE build 1.05
Go to “Plug-ins”
Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click “Run Plugin”
If your computer isn't infected, click "close"
If your computer is infected:[list]
Select “Clean System”
Reboot your computer
Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
Remove any VX2 objects detected
Reboot your computer again
Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer

Hello again Coachwife, Thank you for your reply.

I uninstalled Microsoft Money and Microsoft office.

My ISP is Blueyonder.co.uk

I downloaded and ran VX2 Cleaner and it came up with System Clean

I scanned computer with Adaware and all seems ok.

I rebooted.

But this infernal machine will still not shut down without automatically starting again.

I'm back in your hands again.......sorry nothing seems to work.
