An IBM ThinkPad X40 can no longer download emails with Outlook. It was recently updated with the new drivers from IBM and about a week later this issue appeared. When ever new email is received the computer bogs down and only rarely is able to download a message. I thought it might be a corrupted email so all old email was deleted and the old pst was removed, still no luck. When an email with an attachment is accessed to programs stops for ~5 minutes. If the mouse is moved over an email with an attachment the program freezes. It doesn't seem to be malware because I ran it through ewido and panda. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Detect and Repair did not fix the problem. The account settings are as they should be. Any more ideas?
