I'm so lost! None of my Photoshop tools will work. I have checked all the reasonable possibilities and have reset the preferences using the Ctl Alt Del function when opening Photoshop. I first discovered this when my clone tool wouldn't work.

I can't paint, no dodging and burning, nothing. I can select and move and select layers. I am fairly advanced PS user having been using it for at least 10 years.

Anyone have any ideas? I need my Photoshop........

any chance that the image you're trying to work with is locked? does this happen ALL the time? what if you create a new image..do the tools work then?

Hmm, try reinstalling, maybe thatll work.

dsenete - I checked and the file is locked previously. I made a duplicate layer and made sure the layer was unlocked. Still nothing. I opened another file. same thing. I made a new image same thing.

I haven't had any trouble like this before. I don't recall the background layer being locked before, either.
