I have had some trouble with the about blank. It installs various links in the favorites. I have noticed others have had problems with this. Hopefully, someone can help me.

Thanks,

Hi,

Well, I think I beat the about blank...but now norton says I have edmond.exe. I hope I can get rid of this. I am a college student and hooked up to campus internet. It seems I have been getting a lot of bad things lately...I am not sure why. Anyway here is current log if you see anything interesting:

Hi vox,
Seems you have some left over remants of the about blank,

Download and unzip cwsserviceremove to your desktop. use either link below:
http://computercops....ownload&id=3002
http://www.mytechsup...rviceremove.zip

1. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:

Remote Procedure Call

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

2. Reboot into SafeMode. <---MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!

3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once => Click Task Manager => Click the Processes tab => Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes => Scroll through the list and look for:

PROCESSES TO BE STOPPED sdklj.exe

If you find the files, click on them, and then click End Process => Exit the Task Manager.

4. [b]CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS
Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 11Fßä #·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdklj.exe (file missing)

5. Delete the following files if present:
If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdklj.exe

(and any other files with the same name that end in .dll, .exe or .dat, you may find them right next to each other, example - appsw.exe, appsw.dll, appsw.dat)

6. Double click on the cwsserviceremove and when asked to merge say yes.

7. reboot into normal mode and post a fresh hijack this log.

Hey vox this can be a real pest sometimes,
Download and run Service Filter:
[*]Please download ServiceFilter.
[*]Unzip ServiceFilter.zip to a convenient folder like C:\ServiceFilter.
[*]Navigate to where you unzipped it and double-click on ServiceFilter.vbs.
[*]If you have an active anti-virus it might prevent the script from starting. Please allow the script to run.
[*]It will open a text file (POST_THIS.TXT) that lists all of the irregular services.
[*]Press Ctrl + A simultaneously to select all of the text.
[*]Copy and paste the whole thing into your next post.
[*]A copy of POST_THIS.TXT is saved to where ServiceFilter.vbs was saved just in case you accidentally close out of it.

Lets run this,

Open HiJackThis. It should open to a "New users quickstart" menu
Click "Open the Misc Tools section"
Click "Delete a file on reboot..."
In the "Enter file to delete on reboot..." window, navigate to:

c:\windows\system32

And select the file

sdklj.exe

Then click Open. After you click Open, HiJackThis will ask you if you want to restart your computer now. You do, so click Yes.

Open killbox again please
put a check next to "replace on reboot" and put a check next to 'use dummy'.
In the 'Enter Full Path and Filename to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry, then click on the red stop sign with the white X on it:

c:\windows\system32\sdklj.exe

Click 'Exit' when done

Reboot to safe mode search for and delete

c:\windows\system32\sdklj.exe

Let us now how you make out please
