in the device manager I see a yellow ! next to the standard floppy controler, the primary & secondary IDE controler, and two audio devices. Also last night I got my cd drive to work in dos by booting with the original boot disk and reinstalled win98 in the same location. Now when I boot and login, I have lost my video drivers and my computer is slower than a snail.

So, where are we now then?

Should be a matter of reinstalling the video drivers (which will speed things up greatly).

Also, check to ensure your drives are not using real mode drivers.....right click MY COMPUTER, choose PROPERTIES, and (man, I need to set up a windows 98 machine rather than relying on memory), I think there is a tab called PERFORMANCE

No not real mode drives, but I cannot reinstall the video drivers because my cd drive and internet does not work.

FIXED :tazz: ;) ;) what I did is I inserted my win98 boot disk and booted to command prompt only, then I typed E:\ and hit enter, then I typed copy E:\win98*.*C:\win98 and presed enter. It stated 1 file copied, so I restarted my pc and booted to windows, went to my computer and my 2 cd drives were there. If you have any questions ask. Now this thread can be marked closed.
