Ok you should be able to almost definately save your files.
1: Make sure to save files, mainly pictures of wedding, then worry about fixing computer. **Don't want you to die**
2: Take out your harddrive, carefully -making sure to remove static electricity by touching case- and change the plug to slave.
3: Put the harddrive into another turned off computer.
4: Start up the computer and windows will recognize the harddrive and install it.
5: After the harddrive is installed you should be able to browse the harddrive and find the files.
6: Copy those files to another harddrive, prolly host computer.
7: Thank God you saved the pictures!
Ok now to fix your original computer<or if you don't have another computer to try the harddrive>
1: To get into safe mode keep pressing F5 after the black screen once you first turn on your computer
2: Now it will ask you what to do, go into SAFE MODE.
3: If everything goes as planned you will enter into Windows XP under Safe Mode.
4: Now grab that floppy, cd, flashdrive, or whatever to save those pics after saving the pics then save everything else needed.
5: While still in Safe Mode do a System Restore; Start>Control Panel>System Restore
6: Restore to a previous date before you erased the registry file.
If none of the above works-----
If none of the above has worked for you to fix your computer, hopefully after you have already saved the pics, then just reinstall windows xp pro.
If you need anymore help just post us back up.

Do Sata have jumpers , When installed will XP find it ,Do I have to do anything in the bios, Can I use the same cables setting as a slave on the next computer ,Is there a way to make that hardrive a external drive and hook it up to make usb port ,In my current status w/my problem how is that gonna work making it a slave in another computer if on the computer already it won't even boot up in Windows ??

Lots of questions, but I can help you out.
1. Sata does have jumpers, do you have a sata drive or ide drive?, and whenever you at the harddrive their usually is some writing to show you which pins to put the jumper in so that you make the harddrive a slave. If you anymore help with this just ask, I'm trying to write quickly because I have to go to school.

2. Ok when you plug this slaved harddrive into another computer the bios should have no problem configuring it and then windows should not have a problem installing it. So your setup is Windows XP PRo on master, and non working Windows XP PRo on slave. The master drive will be the one to boot up so the slave is used just to view the contents of the drive.
3. Their is a way to make the harddrive external, by purchasing an external enclosure for it.
4. As long as you have a working computer, taking your messed up windows harddrive, slaving it, and putting it in a good computer will allow you to view the contents. What happens is master harddrive will boot and the slave will just be viewed.
**I'm sorry I had to write the info down quickly, but I will be back home later this day to help more. If you need any pics to give you a visualization I can take those with my camera and give them to you.**
Also wedding pictures should still be there, its just windows xp that is messed up.

Can you give us a little more information on your machine? Make and model number would be helpful. Don't pull the hard drive quite yet...we may have other options.

The installation cd that came with your machine should have the repair feature...
Disconnect all external hardware on the machine except the keyboard and mouse (desktop). Put the XP cd into the drive and reboot.
Run the repair again using This Guide. Let us know if it fails to complete.

I would not try to repair the operating system first, because there can be problems. Trust me after several bad repairs on systems, I have realized it is much easier to take the harddrive out first then repair the system<that way you will not lose any information>.
The pictures seem to be the most important thing you're willing to save so I would make sure you save them by taking out the harddrive as stated and copying over those files. After you have completed that procedure then you can simply reinsert the harddrive and then worry about saving the system.
Taking out the harddrive is not as complicated as it seems and you will face smaller problems, but when you look to repairing the system, serious errors can occur.
Simply my opinion because I do not want to see you lose those pictures.
I hate repair cd's and windows system repair because they almost always seem to cause more of a problem than actually helping.

If you want to do the harddrive extraction to another computer....
1. Unplug power connector and sata cable from harddrive
2. Change jumper<as seen in picture, the white piece comes off the pins and then put it back onto different pins//the slave pins// to change it>to slave
3. Plug sata cable and power connector into working computer with jumper set on slave
**Be careful with sata connectors on the motherboard because they are fragile**
4. Turn on working computer
5. Bios finds and configures drive
6. Windows starts and installs hardware
7. Access the drive and copy pictures over
There ya go!
Post back up if you run into any problems.
