Hi there, I downloaded a codec called: strcodec.398.exe, and found some trojan and malaware in my computer. I went into safe mode and ran eqido, spybot and adaware and deleted what they uncovered. I'm not sure if I have gotten rid of all malicious ware on my pc, but I do know that a programme or what appears to be one is still on my desktop and taskbar called: "virus bust 6.0." I tried the uninstall option when I right-clicked on the icon but the message I got was missing shortcut. Here is my hijack this and ewido reports:

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hello again and you're welcome.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please be sure to post both the Smitfraudfix report a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Hi lucky-g, doing well here thanks.

Please disable SpywareGuard, as it may interfere with the HijackThis fix:

Right click the SpywareGuard icon in the System Tray at the bottom-right corner of the screen and open the program.
Then go to Menu, File, Exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.

Run a scan with HijackThis and place a check in the box beside the following entry if present:

O21 - SSODL: hemadynamometer - {6076d2b1-634c-4685-843b-f826045ea5dc} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\syycum.dll (file missing)

After checking the entry, close all other open windows and click 'Fix checked' once it is done exit.

Now, download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
- Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
- Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
- Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.

In your next post please include the ewido log and a new HijackThis log. Also, let me know how things are now. :whistling:

Hi lucky-g, smitfraudfix should have got those zlob items in ewido's log and its log didn't look right before, so I want you to do this to make sure nothing gets left behind that would reinfect you.

You may want to print out or make a copy of these instructions before starting, because you will not be able to connect to the internet during most of this fix.

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again --- this is normal.
Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish --- this may take a while; please be patient.

Restart your computer in normal mode.
Please post a new HijackThis log as well as the log from the smitRem tool, which will be located at C:\smitfiles.txt.

Please let me know after doing that if you are still having issues.

Hi Drex23, so far everything is running well on my side...but, I still have the virus burst icons in the "all programs" menu, the tool bar next to the "start" button and on the desktop. Here are the reports:

Hi again, please disable SpywareGuard, as it may interfere with the reg fix:

Right click the SpywareGuard icon in the System Tray at the bottom-right corner of the screen and open the program.
Then go to Menu, File, Exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.

Then, do this:

Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quote box below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

Restart the computer.

See if that clears up the problem and keep me posted. If not, please include a new HijackThis log along with what issues you are having.

Hey Drex23, I tried to merge the fix.reg document but couldn't. Instead, there was an error message: registry editor: cannot import C:\.........fix.reg: the specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor. Just a note, when I was saving the quote into wordpad, I noticed that there does not exist 'all files' as a choice in 'file type'. So I chose 'rich text format'. What do you think? Another note, I left the my computer on today and noticed that when I got back to it, Symantec AV quarantined 2 trojans....

Hi lucky-g, judging by your description I think what happened is you used wordpad instead of notepad. Please try the instructions again using notepad and let me know how you make out and if that fixes the virus burst annoyances. As far as the trojans that Symantec found, can you give me specifics, such as the location and name, etc? Please also include a new HijackThis log in your next response.

Hi lucky-g, those files are in system recovery so once you're clean, I'll give you instructions to clear that out. They aren't doing any harm right now.

Please run a free online scan with Kaspersky AntiVirus (works only with MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher).
Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button (NOT "Kaspersky File Scanner").

In the new window that opens, click the "Accept" button to accept the user agreement, install the ActiveX control, and download the program.
When you get the Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the "Install" button.
When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button lights up with a green arrow, click it.
Click on the "Scan Settings" button, and in the next window select the "extended" database, and click Ok.
Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.

When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window, and post the text in kavscan.txt in your next reply.

Please let me know in your next reply if you are still having any issues and post both the kaspersky log and a new HijackThis log.
