So I just built a computer with mostly new hardware. Nothing fancy just a workstation on my domain. I used our volume license to install XP. Then I ran the upgrade to SP2.

The upgrade says it completes but when I reboot it gets to the blue Windows XP screen and just says:

Please Wait...

Nothing else happens?

Thanks

Hi jaxisland...

How long are you waiting? This sometimes takes quite a while as much of SP2 installs during the startup.

2-3 hours

Does it still need more?

Plus there will be no HD activity for the whole time. It just sits there all quiet.

Nope...I've never had one take over 30 minutes.

Try booting into Safe Mode options and try the option for "Last known good confiuration". If the machine starts, uninstall SP2 and download This Version. Burn this SP2 to cd (you won't have to ever download it again) and try installing it. Be sure to disable any Anti Virus you have running (disconnect from the internet, of course) before you do the install.

If you reinstall Windows...install the SP2 immediately afterwards... :whistling:

Ok, so I did a complete fresh install on a brand new hard drive of XP

Then I used the link you sent me and updated SP2

The update went fine, as usual and when I restarted it has been hung doing nothing on the blue screen that says:

Please wait.......

If you notice it went 4 more dots past the first time in the first 10 seconds but nothing after that, I am going to leave it on the screen till I hear back.

FYI: It has been sitting here since 13:08 EST

Thanks

Ok...

It may be a BIOS version issue...Boot to the last known good configuration and uninstall SP2.

Go HERE and use Method 2. You'll have to download and install a patch...then try the SP2 install again.

Last Known Good just goes into a black screen after POST.

I tried Safe Mode and so far it is letting me uninstall it.
