I just want to be careful here and not remove anything needed.

Thing is,nothing legitimate that I know of should run from a Temp folder.

Just to edit some more,I dont recall ever seeing a folder labeled TMP on the C drive on any PC I have ever worked on.

You do alot of gaming on the Computer?

Do you have any kind of Temp File cleaners installed?

Im going to research that entry some more.

For the time, use the Reg Search tool again and search the registry for the entry below

bfastfao

Post back the results you get please.

don't really do much gaming, just a couple of games installed. The TMP seems to mainly contain .tmp files, no .exe's. Also, there are a few folders in here that are empty. There's also a folder called TEMP on the C drive, but this is empty too. I don't have a temp file cleaner.

Thanks.

No problem with the Temp Cleaner,Ill get ya one to use on a regular basis.

Think you could work through the registry if I give ya some detailed instructions?

I wanna make a backup just in case we need it.

I went and got myself Ccleaner and ran it, and now there's only 4 files left in the TMP folder.

Think I could follow instructions and work through the registry.

CCleaner will work, just dont use anything but the temp file cleaner itself, please dont use any of the other features,I have had some bad experiences with it.

Open the Registry Editor--> Click Start--> Click Run--> Type in regedit and click OK.

Registry Editor is not all that different than navigating the file system with explorer.

Once the Registry Editor is opened, look to the smaller left hand pane.

Double Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to expand the key.

Locate and Right Click SYSTEM

Select Export

When the next smaller window appears, select to save this to your desktop.

For Save as type:

Select Registry Hive Files (*.*)

For File name:

Give it the name Backup

Click Save

The file will be rather large but Id prefer to cover all bases.

Ill try to attach a screen shot of what you should see when saving the export.

Restart in Safe Mode

Locate and Delete the following

C:\TMP<-- Folder

C:\WINDOWS\system32\actskn45.ocx<-- File

Click Start--> Click Run--> Copy&Paste the command in bold text below and click OK.

sc delete bfastfao

Restart Normal and Generate another HijackThis Startup Log.

Post the Startup log in the next reply please.

ok, downloaded the two programs you suggest. Can't get Kapersky scanner to work though. It says its failed to install, and that I must have administrative rights and have my internet security level set to medium (which it is).

ok, so I tried the other link you posted, and got page not found, so I found the bit defender online scanner off their website. I tried to do a scan there and was unable to, even though I selected to install the active x control and the software. So, just out of interest, I went back and tried to do panda's scan again, and got an error message referring to C:/TMP. So I recreated this folder, and now bitdefender is working! Guess there must be something telling .tmp files to be put in C:/TMP rather than C:/TEMP?

Here's the result of the virus scan:
