So I had a file on my secondary hard drive and I tried to open it and it kinda froze I couldn't do anything but restart but it was a hard restart. Then after the computer is loaded up I click the shortcut to the drive where the file was and I get this message: http://img340.images...hunter124ro.png

I've tried system restore and I've tried putting the Windows XP cd in it sees it and it says it's label and everything but it will not show up in the list.

Then when I go to disk management it sees it but it shows it as unallocated: http://img118.images...nhunter7dp1.png

It will not show up in my computer.

After hours of fooling around with it I finally got XP to recognize it only it's unallocated. GREAT! I didn't format it though how could this happen?

Anyway I have a ntfs recovery program but my question is how do I recover the files to the unformatted drive?

I just had some good luck with this recovery software on a 40 gig drive. I did not get all i wanted from the drive but i did recover 70% of what i wanted.

You might look into these also.

If you use Knoppix, pay attention to the captive ntfs tool.

well I have some software I paid a massive amount for it's like go back or get data back or something and it will find everything all my files the only problem is I can't recover them to the drive because the drive is unformatted and I can't recover 117gb to 20gb hard drive the 20 was supposed to be the main and the 200 the backup. If I format it there's a chance I could lose all the data.

I'm not sure what to do.
