I have Excel 2003. I don't even know if what I'm trying to do is possible, but so far everything I've tried doesn't work.

Here's the scenerio:

I have 3 columns.
Column A has phone numbers in rows 2 through 1121 (with a header in row 1).
Column B has phone numbers in rows 2 through 6324 (with a header in row 1).
In column C, I would like to put a formula that would put an asterick in column C if the phone number column B is anywhere in Column A.

For example, if the phone number in row 5/column B is equal to the phone number in any row of column A, I'd like an asterick in row 5/column C.

So far, I tried this: in row 2/column C, I typed: =if(B2=A:A,"*","")
and then I copied the formula into each row in column C. But it doesn't seem to work.

any help is appreciated.

thanks,
mike.
