1. I received the <window root>\system32\hal.dll message last night and can no longer access Windows XP Pro on my computer. (This seems to be a VERY freuqent problem with no sure fixes.
2. Called the vendor and for a small fee, they are going to send me an OEM version of the Windows XP Pro they loaded onto my computer when I purchased it.
3. Similar to the "Tobyed" thread that started 10 Sept, I also have a "corrupt file system" that refuses to allow bootcfg /rebuild to work.
5. My question: When the software shows up, I imagine this is a "hidden file." What do I do to get that file from the OEM drive onto my computer without losing everything I have on my hard drive?

THANK YOU
