I have am IBM thinkpad 755cd laptop. I put in a 32 memory card. 771 hard drive. It has old version of MS-DOS. Is there any way to install windows 95/98 on this computer. It has the CD-ROM and floppy disk that you swap inside. i have a windows 95 boot up disk that i downloaded from a site. When I first start it up with boot disk it comes on and says

Starting windows 95....

This driver is provided by Oak Technology, Inc...
OTI-91X ATAPI CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER, Rev D91XV352
©Copyright Oak Technology Inc. 1987-1997
Device Name :NOSPIN
No drives found, aborting installation

Device driver not found: 'NOSPIN'
No valid CDROM device drivers selected

does this mean that I need to purchase another CD-ROM for my computer

also my computer tells me that some of my config.sys files are missing

:tazz: just don't know what to do. ........says i have room for primary partition but not extended partition.

thanks so much

When you reboot, you will see something about " to enter BIOS...." or "to enter setup..." with directions to press a key.

It will likely be F1, F2 or DEL.

Do so. Look for STARTUP OPTIONS or BOOT OPTIONS.

If there is an option to boot to CD-rom, or Boot to removable device with CD-ROM as an option, select that one.

Hit f10 to save.

Insert windows 98cd

Reboot.

Windows setup will start from CD.

If it does not, you can still do it, probably, but you will need a WINDOWS 98se boot disk, which has a better universal CD driver.

okay,
i have a 95 windows diskettes to install windows. It won't register on my cd-rom due to the fact that my hard drive C:\ is wipe completely out. so i've got a 95 windows boot dis. put that into the a:\ drive and it runs set up and says that there is no device for cd-rom drive. then at the A promt i insert the widows 95 setup diskette #1 it runs to do the scan disk then it says that windows scandisk has detected a compressed volume or a disk-cache utility. it says to use a software or to delete the disk-cache utility. it tells me to quit running setup and re start setup when i have done that :tazz: i don't know what to do . i don't know where the disk-cache utility file is or how to access it.

I hit enter anyway to continue and the blue screen that says windows 95 pops up with a box that say windows click continue and cancel to setup up wizard for windows. at that point it freezes up. it won't do anything the mouse won't move or nothing?

please help thanks so much teetee1

OK, I am partially following you, but your messages are a little confusing The disk cache utility is probably smartdisk, and some setup programs will not run with it. The compressed volume....I think this computer was running the diskdoubling harddisk program that shipped with DOS and Windows at one time.

Here's two questions...what do you want to do? You seem to be fascilating between windows 95 and 98 terminology.

And, what do you have, in the way of Windows CDs? Driver disks? This is a very old laptop...

Answer that and we can step your through set up.

CD-Rom device driver for ide (four channels supported)
© copyright oad technology inc. 1993-1996
