Hello. There are several viruses that change your home page and add links to your favorites, so I'd advise you to make sure your defs are up to date, and do a virus scan (just to be on the safe side) to make sure you're clean.

Actually, this particular infection is a pain in the butt to remove and it can't be removed by "conventional methods", unfortunately.

please then reboot your computer and post a new hijackthis log...also when we have fixed your computer from infections we must update it to windows xp SP2! i do not recommend doing it now becasue with infections it can complicate the process and cause even bigger problems

Thank-you soxrox for your reply. I checked those boxes in Hijack this but a message came up that said.
"Hijack this could not write the selected changes to your hosts file. The probable cause is that some program is denying access to it, or that your user account doesn't have the rights to write to it"
So I haven't got any further. I apologize about not updating very often as we have been away on Easter Holidays.

No worries! We'll get it fixed

First, right click on the desktop and go to New > Folder - click folder and name it whatever you want. Right click HiJackThis.exe and go to "cut", go into the folder you just made and "paste".

Next, Please click on the link below to download Atribune's Find.zip:
Find.zip

*Download "Find.zip" to the folder you just made on the desktop. Make sure to Extract All Files!
*Double Click "Find.bat" and let it scan the PC - it just takes a couple of seconds!
*Look back in the folder you downloaded to and locate "Report.txt"
*Double Click "Report.txt" and copy the the log and paste it here.

I followed your instructions and everything went right except that there was no log in "Report.txt"

Did you extract all files? Try running it again. And, also, follow the directions below:

*Open HijackThis.
*Select Config (bottom right) > Select Misc Tools > Select Generate StartUpList log and make sure that both boxes beside it are checked:

Put a check by:
List all minor sections(Full)

and

List Empty Sections(Complete)

It will produce a NotePad Page. I need you to copy the entire contents of that page and paste it here!

Thanks Michelle, sorry if i am a bit slow but i tried it again and still nothing. How can i tell if i have extracted all files. When i click on "Find.zip" it only takes about half a second to scan my computer. Is that right??

*First I need you to boot in Safe Mode - you can do this by restarting your computer, then continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, hit enter.

This next step is *VERY IMPORTANT*!
*Be sure you're able to VIEW HIDDEN FILES

*Now Navigate to the Folder listed below (in bold) using WINDOWS EXPLORER:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS

In your DRIVERS folder, locate this file:

cbidf2kh.sys

Right Click that File and Select Rename and Rename it to:

cbidf2kh.bak

Restart in Normal Mode.

Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet and that all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis again. Put a checkmark next to these entries. Then click "FIX CHECKED"

Exit HiJackThis.

Restart into safemode again. Locate the File "stsheets.dat" DELETE IT! Just go into Windows Explorer, then go into C:\Windows to look for the file. Do NOT try to find it by doing a search on the computer because this file WILL be hidden (so double check to make sure you can view hidden files because you do not want this to stay on your computer!)

When deleted, reboot your system again and bring it back up in normal mode. Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start > Run > type in MSCONFIG > click OK.
Under the "General" tab Make Sure "Normal Startup" is Checked!!
Select the tab labeled "Startup" and put a Check by every box there. Once everything is enabled, post a new HiJackThis log.
