Ok, I downloaded a file, scanned it with norton anti-virus(which is completely up-to-date), got the all clear and opened it up. It then disabled the auto-protect on norton and put over 15 virus/spyware files on my comp. I managed to get rid of all bar one(that i know of).

Every 30 seconds or so norton firewall tells me a file Protector.exe tries to access the internet. Before i knew it was there i had disabled my firewall for a minute and it stared spamming mail out, presubably full of itself. Im told its in windows\system32\ folder but i can not see it in there(and its not a hidden file). A full system search couldnt find it either, there is no reference in my registry to protector.exe and i checked all my start-up processes one-by-one in msconfig. I've also ran full system scans with both norton antivirus and lavasoft ad-aware (up-to-date) and both say everything is clear.

I would really appreciate any help as i would hate to have to format my system :whistling:.

Hope i was clear.
Thanks in advance. :help:
