I keep getting the SEVERE error message that says:
"setup (of ATI Windows driver) was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup."

Essentially my video card stopped working (I was playing around with video editing).

When I view directx diagnostic- it says the system is using a generic video driver.

When I try to install the video driver, I get the message severe error message mentioned above.

Any Ideas?

Be sure you are using the latest ATi drivers (from their website). I used to get this problem with an older version, it was fixed in the latest version.
