i am in the process of making a guys gaming forum, but the forum is so huge im having some trouble dealing with all the ranks

this is a relativily easy question for anyone, i think i just confused myself though O.o

could someone maybe just describe the difference from a registered setting and a private setting? i understand the hidden setting of each, im just a little fuzzy on the differences though

Been a while since I used PHPBB Matt, but as I recall once of the nice features was it's support for groups. These groups can be given different permissions.

So, a registered forum is visible to anyone that's registered with your site (guests can't see). A private forum can be made visible to all registered users, or only select groups.
