I have the same problem. My computer doesn't recognise either my CD Rom or CD RW drives but they open and close and it sounds like they are working when I put a cd in - they just don't do anything!
I tried the eldergeek link and got to the Key Name but I don't know what to delete. I don't know which ones are the data values. Sorry to sound totally stupid but I don't know that much about computers.
Please could you let me know which ones are the value data and where the upper and lower filters are.
Cheers <_<

Thank goodness that a Google search led me to this forum. I had uninstalled some Roxio products and My Computer was not showing either my DVD-ROM drive (D:) or my CD-RW drive (G:). I had tried all the solutions posted by Microsolution, Roxio and MS with no success. However, I downloaded and ran the CDGONE patch and rebooted my PC. Next, I went into Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and right clicked first on BACKPACK CD-REWRITER-4E USB Device and selected "Uninstall". Then I did the same thing for the HITACHI DVD-ROM (both of these had a yellow exclamation mark next to them). I then selected Action > Scan for Hardware Changes and Windows XP detected both devices, which are showing up in My Computer now working perfectly.

Kudos to this forum and the great utility!
