Hello
Hopefully im in the right place if not i do apologise.
I have an old PC with windows XP installed and i want to dispose of it the problem is after watching the Panarama program on BBC TV a couple of weeks agoi dont want to take me PC to the the recycling depot as i have some personal infomation on the hard drive.

They did say on the program that you could buy some software that would wipe you harddrive clean as formatting it only moves the files, does any one know if or where this product can be purchased or downloaded.

many thanks in advance for your help.

go to http://dban.sourceforge.net and follow their instructions for making a bootable DBAN disk...boot to the disk and run the software on your computer (once is good...twice if you're skiddish...three times if you like to wear a tinfoil hat and hide from the government spies)..this will effectively remove any info from your hard drive...

it's admirable that you're wanting to recycle the computer...but before you dispose of it...i have a contact that may have a use for your pc...i'll put them in contact with you shortly

well....yes...but you'll have to reinstall everything....DBAN is designed to overwrite the entire disk with random info...making everything useless...(it even overwrites the pointers so it looks empty)...it's good stuff....but...not for use when you're not planning on keeping the system running...HOWEVER....you can use it to wipe say....a secondary slave drive...or a secondary partition on a primary drive...but it can get dangerous
