I think my problem started with pest trap. A bubble popped up on my tool bar: "your computer is infected." Then pest trap icon popped up. I ran pccilin and it found EXPL_WMF.GEN which could not be quarantined. I followed directions to patch vulnerabilities. It still didnt fix the annoying pop up and I noticed that my desktop background was a solid color and my picture vanished. I tried to select another picture to set as my desktop but it doesent allow me to do so. I got onto your forum and follwed the steps to download and scan for adware and spyware. I used smitrem, panda active scan, ewido, and ad-aware. It cleaned up a lot of stuff and eliminated the annoying pop up bubble. I am very impreesed with the detailed support, however, I still cant set my desktop picture or background up. Plese help!

Hi :whistling:

The panda results aren't a big deal, we will remove them in a bit.

Try this for the desktop issue

Click Start, click Control Panel and then double-click Display. Click on the Desktop tab, then click the Customize Desktop button. Click on the Web tab. Under Web Pages you should see a checked entry called Security info or something similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the Delete button. Click Ok then Apply and Ok.

Let me know

Thanks for your reply. What an amazing forum! Anyway, your suggestion did not work for me but I just found an old thread on geeks2go at this link: http://www.geekstogo...-t38725-s0.html - I downloaded fixreg.zip as instructed and it seemed to work. I think my desktop problems are fixed. What do you think about my
Running processes list from hijack. Is that all cool? Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

  • On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
  • Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
  • Click OK.

You should be good to go :whistling:
