Hello everyone,
About a week ago something latched onto my pc when i downloaded a trial move format converter. I suspiciously ran some scans with spybot and nabbed a few things with a few others that woiuldn't be deleted (all in the registries) spybot asked to run againon reboot. It was late so i did it the next day. There were more little things and again a few things in the reg that refused to be deleted. I was also no longer able to access 'My Documents" or "control Panel" I went running to the net to try and find someone smarter than I am to help me out. I found this site joined up and went through the "Things to do before posting list," I ran spybot, adaware, cwshredder, ewido (avg) and tojanhunter> I ran them all as I was told and after many hours of scanning and deleting several programs My Computer and control Panel worked. Excellent i thought my job is done. Today it all started again. I re-scanned and even though everything works now I'm posting on the assumpyion that it won't work by tomorrow. Trojan hunter still can't clean 4 different entries...

I will also post my hijack this log. If anyone couldhelp me I would really apprecitate it as I have exams and essays coming up and will need my pc. Oh just for the recore I live in Australia so if I seem to take some time to reply its probably just the Time ZOnes. Thanks again in advance.

Hi jimdivine and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

After posting C:\rapport.txt,Please download Combofix to your primary C:\ drive.

Doubleclick combo.exe to launch the application.

Follow the prompts that will be displayed on the screen.

Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt

Please post that log in the next reply.

Hello there cretemonster,
Thanks for the instructions. I've carried them out (smitfraud didn't ask to replace the wininet.dll though) and here are the logs.
