Hi there,

Whenever I try to open My Documents, My Computer etc. I get an error telling me I can't access the file Temp\se.dll. AVG reports this as a trojan called startpage.16.BD, but as soon as I delete it, it reappears immediately. Also, my IE homepage has redirected to about:blank, whatever that is, and I cannot access Windows Update. I'm not sure if these are related or not.

I've tried everything on your recommendations, but the problem still persists.

Here's my HJT log:

Download the two programs below but don't run either of them yet.

Click here to download CWShredder. Click here to download SpSeHjfix. Put both files in a new folder.

Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded. Disconnect from the net and close all open programs. Run SpSeHjfix, click on 'Start Disinfection', when it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process. The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder.

Now run CWShredder, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. Reboot when done, post a fresh HJT log and the log that was created by SpSeHjfix.

Good. Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\DARYLW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/spage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\DARYLW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/spage.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {9D8A353D-41FF-4F7E-BEBD-1C4411518ABE} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {9D8A353D-41FF-4F7E-BEBD-1C4411518ABE} - (no file) (HKCU)

Exit HijackThis when done. Rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here.
