I dont know if this is a good test but I will try and get a music file from the old (Boot?) system and see if it works. Is that a good enough test?

The music works fine except I now have at least two copies of every song. Now I see my sound card isnt working yet either! Man this sucks! At least its coming along now.
So now I can just pick stuff from th old system and the backup device as needed?

Now what about the updates, should I just watch for the ones that didnt work and keep crossing them off

Turn automatic updates off if it is on

Transfer what you need, you may also be able to move rather than copy, so you only have one file

Copy has the advantage of being able to check it has transferred properly

The duplicates can be deleted later

Do you use IE6 or 7
