OuterInfo problem

The OIN uninstaller won't remove the program from my computer. I recently got rid of the virus but I had to repair my XP, so it all came back. Could I just use a restore point that my hard drive has created, or are my restore points gone as a result of the XP repair?

Hello and welcome John,

could you do the following for me please

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as FindFile.bat and save it on your Desktop.




dir c:\WINDOWS\system32\n?lookup.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt



Locate FindFile.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the text here

Next Reboot into SAFE MODE
Search for and delete the Folders highlighted in Blue Files highlighted in BOLD

C:\Program Files\rdso
C:\WINDOWS\system32\n?lookup.exe <-- this one will likely look exactly like the legit file and not have the ? in it, you need to right click on the file and check properties and make sure the date the file was created is 01/17/2006 and the size of the file is 405,504

Restart your computer, Post back a fresh log please

The first file wasn't in the list. But the second, do you mean the bad file's size will be 405,504 and the creation date was 1/17/06, or that the good file had that info?

The file was there, but it was called: "nslookup", and the file size nor date matched what you stated. Is that good or bad?


Aside from that confusion, here's my log. I'll go back and delete the file if necessary. - Seems like a lot of people are having trouble with OuterInfo these days.

Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection


Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.4 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, A handy tool to do this
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.

UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
