licensed copy of XP, Dell preload...all of a sudden it is in a loop prior to login. message appears - your copy of windows needs to be activated - do you want to activate now? click yes, message Your copy of windows is already activated appears. I am only onsite at teh customer one day a month, so I don't know what may have been installed or downloaded since my last visit. I suppose there is a possibility of some file corruption. Think I can avoid a reload?

yeah, doesn't always work.

The repair install is the better option anyway. The other option is the one used by corporate customers to "change the cdkey", and then reinstalling the original key again, which was my next suggestion, but for people who can competently run a repair, it's just as easy.

after repair, ran XP SP2 and lost all USB support. computer is an Optiplex GX 280 small desktop w/ no PS2 connections, so no keyboard or mouse...turned itself into a doorstop. I wound up doing a clean install.
