I, or rather, my father
experienced the same problem with word from offixeXP. I then found this forum, but removing normal.dot wasn't enough. Inspired by a friend who suggested that the combination of offixeXP with win98 could be the problem I found the following link (Dutch) on the microsoft office suprot site! It is apparently a known problem:
http://support.micro...2533&sid=global ..
oh, english version is very simple to find, duh (replace "nl" with "en" in the link):
http://support.micro...2533&sid=global
but anyway, the problem is indeed the combi OffixeXP and win98, with winfax or MS messenger installed and microsoft gives a recipy for removing them.
Hope this helps us all

Hello,
I had the same problem and here is how i fixed it... I had a network printer on another computer at my house. Whenever the other computer at my house was on word would work on my first computer, but whenever off, it wouldn't. So, Simply delete a network printer (if u have one) if u have a local one make sure its plugged in. I dont know why it does that but it just does

i seem to be having a similar problem. but ours occurs mostly for printing, print previewing, and saving. we have 250 brand new hp computers with 40 gig hard drives, 512 megs of ram, etc. hardware shouldnt be a problem. our printers are new hp printers with jetdirect cards,a dn new hp servers. on of which shares all of the printers. hardware is not a problem.
deleting and deleting the normal.dot works on some machines but not others. only some computers have this, but usually about 15 of htem have this problem at a time.
for instance, we had just imaged all of the computers 3 days ago, and already having problems, but like i said, with 15 machines. thats not even a whole lab, thats about half. the image was used throughout the school which leads me to believe that the image is in fact a good image.
we are using norton antivirus corporate edition, obvously up to date. the computers haveing problems are all windows 2000 machines, with client antivirus, all updates are up to date(windows, office, and norton).
the main issue i am having is when a class goes in there, one kid will sit there and ahve the problem, i can do this process, but when the next kid sits there 45 minutes later, i have to redo this process . i know this is within a profile of every user, and each student having their own username....
what would be a workaround for this situation, do i have to create a batchfile or script to execute on logon to make this work for everyone?

you need to be checking your Dr.Watson log files for any possible application errors. Have a look and let us know.
