I stumbled across this site after typing the dr watson line in google. I have been checking mcaffee, norton, adaware, etc. all day today and had no luck getting this squared away. i have even had someone on a message board tell me the dr watson thing is normal - and not to mess with it, so i'm thoroughly confused.

my computer seems to work pretty well, but slower than usual. when using IE and i try to delete temp files, or view folder, and sometimes when trying to use windows explorer the computer freezes and i get the message about dr watsons postmortum debugger has errored.

i have read a lot of the postings on this site, but don't want to try someone else's fix for fear that i'll goof things up worse. i have tried some of the common virus and spyware fixes, run mcafee, etc. and nothing comes up regarding virus problems.

any help on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

I registered about a week ago and received a reply to my original post with a list of instructions. Followed them from start through completion, and still have the Dr Watson error when try to view files in IE and also when trying to access some files using Windows Explorer. Per the instructions, I have run the Hijack this program, and the log is attached. This is my kids computer, so really don't know what sites they visitied which could have caused this problem. Thank you for the help!

Thank you for replying! I didn't get any replies, so I figured I did something wrong with my post or something. I backed up data files on the computer and then used the recovery disks to start from scratch, then reloaded all the programs that were on the computer. That wiped out the problem. Still curious about what happened though as none of the instructed steps picked up whatever the bug was. Thanks again for the reply!

The kids' computer had a browser hijacker. This is what I would have recommended for you to check in hijack this.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox .
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .
