I have a Dell 8300 with 1GB of memory and a GeForce5200 Video card. The card will only run in VGA mode without crashing the computer. I'm considering a new card but many say it takes more than the 250W power supply that is installed in my computer. Any suggestions?

Most of the good video card required at least 350w power supply. There's some that will take 300w power supply.

That's what I've been finding, some claim that Dell requires a different type of power supply, something about different connectors. I haven't researched what I will need as much as I need to yet.

Newer Dells do not have proprietary power supplys. Most of the pentium 3 and some early pentium 4 dell computers did have special PS's. If you need on you can get them here.

Thanks, I was pretty sure that was how the newer Dells were, now I just have to decide how many watts and do I cut my case for a switch. I'thinking of a 500 Watt power supply.

You might look at this website for info on how to rewire your power switch and lights.
