What does it mean if my motherboard does two long beeps and doesn't start up? If I turn it off and then on manually after this it will. It is an Asus A8N-SLI motherboard.

The A8N series has had a lot of issues with starting, but there's no common cause as to why it does this. The common issues seem to be a faulty BIOS chip, a dead motherboard battery, SATA incompatibilities, duff power supplies or even when a few printers are plugged in.

Even Asus website for this board has had 10 BIOS updates for it over the course of a year, when most boards get by with up to about three.

According to Google, there is no such thing as "two long beeps" (on their own anyway) for this board.

If it is an Award bios (which it is for your board) and its beeping at you, that almost always means its a problem with the video card, as Award BIOSes only beep at you when they can't print the problem on the screen. It will therefore either a memory error or a video problem.
