i have recieved an email with an attachment. When i scan and save to comp it doesn't give me a choice of what sort of doc it is. I went to my docs where i'd saved it but when i clicked on it box came up saying this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. so i cant read it. I'm on windows 98. please help!!

The email attachment is some kind of program exploit that someone sent you . You are lucky it does not do more damage to your computer than to error when you try opening it. If it is a email from a friend then have them send it as a text file. Documents can have embedded files that can do harm to your computer and cause it to stop booting entirely.
