This folder, "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\" takes up 750 mb drive space on my C partition... yet a friend's one is only 30 mb. I think windows has somehow filled it up needlessly, I want to know if it's safe to delete what's in there... and what those files do?

The SoftwareDistribution folder is AutoUpdate.

What is probably making it huge is SP2.

Everything in the C:\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder can be deleted.
If needed it will come back.

If you delete the SoftwareDistribution\DataStore folder, you will
lose your Windows Update installation history.

Note that you will need to stop the "Automatic Updates" service before
you are allowed to delete the DataStore folder.
