I am having an awful time of this and I'm at wits end. I can't open any of my Office files because I get this error everytime I try to access them.
I also get this error each time Windows tries to update to the Service Pack 3 patch.
Can anyone out there help me as I've tried just about everything.
Thanks.

Thakid,
Thanks for the website; however, my error is 1331 and it is a cab.1 problem.
The only thing is that I don't have a Microsoft Office CD. The programs came installed with
the computer.
I suppose I'm sunk. Sheesh!
Any other ideas???!! :whistling:

I have WinXP home edition 2002 with service pack 2 installed. I have no idea what version
of Microsoft Office is on here.
This is a home computer. All of the software was installed when I bought it last year.

I take it then that you do not have the office CD ?
or product key

What has changed on your computer before this happened any software / hardware changes
any updates downloaded?.
This is an install error message which is odd since you have been running office.

I can't open any of my Office files because I get this error everytime I try to access them

Without trying to open any files can you start office ?
If yes go to help do you have a detect and repair option listed here (also click on about and see what office version you are running)
Note it may be hidden if you see a down arrow when you open help click on this.
If you do have detect and repair then try that.
If you do not have the cd and product key key then we can try and pull the key out of the registry
and see if we can run setup from the hard disk But we need to get the key 1st.
I am also suprised that there is no path name in the error message
eg D:\Error 1311 Source file not found Office1.Cab or F:\Error 1311 Source file not found Office1.Cab

peterm,
Thanks for getting back with me.
I was originally alble to get into a Word after it attempted to install. I was told to do the
detect and repair and after doing that, the error code popped up.
In any event, I finally tracked down a geek here in my neighborhood (I was desperate).
He installed Microsoft Office for me and now all the programs work fine.

I initially had a virus (sasser) which started this whole thing and from there all of these other things happened. Been a long 2 weeks.

I'm up and running now so thanks for all the replies.
