windows XP glitch

In windows xp pro, when I create a new fold it doesn't show up at first. If I exit our of the window and go back into it, the folder shows up. The same thing happens when I rename one. I only use this computer for work and the only thing I download is window's updates. It's now a major problem, but it's just a hassel to go back out and in everytime. What could cause this?
