I just reformatted my computer, and I don't remember specifically which driver I had running for my 5-button mouse to work properly. I have Intellipoint 5.5 installed right now and (I'm a gamer) it won't pick up the side mouse buttons in-game, though they work just fine when I browse the web. I'm wondering if I need a driver at all or if windows will just run it naturally? If not, what driver should I use?

BTW it's a Micro Innovations optical mouse. And no, the software that came with it does not work.

your mouse will be here,

runbox command
- press keyboard buttons: winkey + r
- paste this in slot: devmgmt.msc
- press: enter

look there and see if there are any yellow blobs on the mouse icon
have a look at the underside of the Intellipoint 5.5mouse for any serial number
go to the maker's website to see if you can download the driver
