Hi there,

For a while now I have been encountering random disconnects from my wireless network and therefore the internet. There are 3 other pc's on the network. None of the other three experience these problems. My network speed is often at full signal strength and speed and then for no apparent reason it drops out for a few seconds before re-connecting, this can become a real pain. I running Windows SP2. I would really appreiciate and assistance that you might be able to give.


Network card: Ralink RT2500 Wireless LAN Card
Router: Belkin 54g WLAN/LAN router

Only one computer does this? Well... Have you tried updating the drivers for the network adapter?

The Drivers are all up to date, occasionally my computer freezes when the connection drops out

Ralink RT2500 Wireless LAN Card

Is that the chipset and driver version your using for the Linksys Wirelelss PCI card or is that the actual manufacturer version and model number. If not please provide the manufacturer and model?

Hows to get it:

Right Click on your My Computer icon and select Properties
OS DEPENDENT: Select the Hardware tab and then the Device manager button.
Scroll Down to Network Adapters and locate your wireless card: IS there a red x or yellow exclamation point on it? <reply 1>
Right click on your wireless card in the device manager and select Properties
Click on the Driver tab
Post back; the very first line, Driver Provider, Driver Version, Digital Signer <reply 2>
Click the Driver Details Button
Copy down what is under; Driver Files, Provider <reply 3>

I have never heard of Ralink actually making a network card. I do know that they make the chipset's in wireless cards though. I have checked the Ralink Homesite and it says the same. Feel free to check it out here.

What this means is that we need to know who the actual manufacturer of your card is, as you most likly have the wrong drivers or the wrong driver version loaded. Here is the hard way of finding out the manufacturer:

You may want to print this out or read it from another PC-----

Shutdown the PC
Unplug everything from the back of the pc (espically the power cord)
Remove the case cover (do not touch anything inside)
Visually inspect the wireless card for any writting, numbers, or print <reply 1>
Again, do not touch anything... if you have to... touch the case chasis first with both hands... then touch it
Put the case back on
Replug everyhting back in
Restart the computer
Post your replies as directed

The easy way would be to look oon the box it came in (but you most likely don't have that).

1. Ok I found some print on the underside of the adapter: Wireless Lan Card IEEE 802.11g. The Manefucturers name was the mathematical symbol for the sum of followed by -olmax

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: devmgmt.msc and hit ok
Scroll down to network adapters and Right click on your wireless card and select "Uninstall"
After the device is Uninstalled do not restart your computer
Run the Everest report again and post the results.
