whats the best tips and setting like in the power saver options and stuff to keep your hard drive alive?

The killer to any system component is heat. Case ventilation is one of the most effective ways to keep your system alive and healthy. One of my favorite utilities for keeping a hard drive healthy is SpinRite 6. Great for recovery and maintenance though a bit pricey.
