Hi Sarah,

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.gee.../aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.


Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

Yes, UltimateBet will have to be removed.

You will need to print out a copy of these instructions, or save them to NotePad and put a shortcut to the file on the desktop so that you can refer to while you complete this procedure.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis (including any browser windows), then click Fix Checked.

Boot into Safe Mode: You can do this by restarting your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please go to Start then Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

UltimateBet

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Be sure that you can view hidden files and folders.
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\Program Files\UltimateBet
C:\Program Files\Icqasino

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete this file (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\regedit.com

I would like you to perform another scan with AVG AntiSpyware (Ewido) to check that UltimateBet has let anything else install.

Open AVG Anti-Spyware.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
    Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan together with a fresh HijackThis log.

Congratulations. Your log appears to be clean. :whistling:

There is a few things that need to be done before we finish so please take the time to perform these clean-up instructions.

Please remove the following from your computer. These are tools that I asked you to download and their associated log files.

SmitfraudFix and its associated scan logs.
Combofix.exe and its associated scan logs.
Killbox.exe and its backup folder C:\!KillBox
AproposFix.exe
C:\BackupReg1.reg

Please keep AVG AntiSpyware as it is a very usefull program. After the trial period ends please keep it manually updated and perform a complete system scan with it on at least a weekly basis and remove whatever it finds. You will find that it will remove unwanted cookies and various other nasty files that may creep into your computer.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

It would be wise to keep this program and use it every week or so.

I also suggest that you download and install SpywareBlaster that I recommend in the tips below, it will actually help stop some of the nasty stuff from initially installing.

Keep your Sun Java up to date

The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 9

  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
And in the future, remember to remove older versions of Java when you update to a newer version to avoid exploitation of older versions left on your system.

We now need to re-hide some system files and folders.
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading place a checkmark next to Do Not Show hidden files and folders.
  • Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Please follow these Tips to prevent a possible infection or re-infection.

Many computers become infected because of unpatched Operating Systems.

Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly.

Download, install AND update the following free programs. It is important to keep all anti-malware programs updated. Please update at least once a week.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - A powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

hey..! thank you so much! i done everyting you suggested..but IE Spyad wont let me install it for some reason. a black screen comes up with a menu and all but it continuosly blinks and can't choose "install" is it that important? srry if i'm notmaking since or typing bad..lol i have the flu :whistling:

If you are having trouble installing IE-SpyAd, you can skip installing it. Just make sure that you install SpywareBlaster, it currently protects you from over 6000 items and more or less does the same thing.
