Hi guys posted on here a several months ago and fonud out i had a con hook infection or virtumundo i dont know if thats the same thing after folowing the various instructions my computer was decleared clean and was working fine

It has now slowed again i would apprecciate if you could tell me what the infection is and if it is listed in your self removal section i will have ago at removing it again

i ran vundofix and it kept going for about 6 hours so i went to bed and left it and 8 hours later in was still scanning so i shut it down i guess this isnt normal ? any help?

I have since run a panda online scan and it found and removed a virus but as it was free did not remove any of the other stuff how can i remove them? the logfile may be of use to you so i have posted it below

i will try running vundo fix with realtime protection on windows defender disabled and see if it works

MyWay Removal for Dell Computers
You have a newer Dell Computer that came preloaded with MyWay which is considered malware. The following instructions follow Dell's recommendations for removing it. If the following instructions do not work let me know and we will use an alternative method to remove it.

• Remove MyWay
  • Close all open Web browsers
  • Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
  • Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon
  • Click Remove a program
  • Click My Way
  • Click the Change/Remove button
  • Follow the prompts. When done, restart the system
• Download/Install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility .
  • Install the program and start it.
  • Look for the Myway Search Assistant entry
  • Highlight it and click the Remove button.
  That should remove the entry in Add/Remove

Right click on your Recycle Bin (may be called Norton Protected Recycle Bin or whatever name you chose if you installed that option with your Symantec software), select Empty Recycle Bin, and click Yes.

If you installed the Norton Protected Recycle Bin when you installed your Symantec software, Right click on your Norton Protected Recycle Bin again, and click Empty Norton Protected Files, and select Purge All.

• Install Ewido by double clicking the installer.
• Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch Ewido is checked.
• On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
  • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
  • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
  • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
• Click on the Settings tab.
  • Under How to act? click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
  • Under How to scan? all boxes should be selected.
  • Under Possibly unwanted software: all boxes should be checked.
  • Under Reports: click on Automatically generate report after every scan.
  • Under What to scan? select Scan every file.
• Click on Scanner
• Click on the Scan tab.
• Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
• Let the program scan the machine.
• When scan has finished, at bottom of the screen click Apply all Actions.
• Click the Save Scan Report button.
  • Click the Save Report as button.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
• Right-click the Ewido Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
• Post back with the Ewido report and a new Hijackthis log.

The my way bug didnt show on the add/remove programs menu or on the windows clean up tool munu but i did manage to find and delete the four files and make the registry change shall i delete the REG file or keep it here are the logs

You can delete it now.

All looks clean now, you just need to update your Java to prevent future Vundo attacks:

Update Java

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Now that you're clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

1.) Re-Hide System Files and Folders:

• Click Start
• Open My Computer
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
• Select the View tab
• Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option
• Select the Hide protected operating system files option
• Click Yes to confirm
• Click OK

2.) Reset and Re-enable your System Restore

We need to do this to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

• Click Start » Run » ( type: SYSDM.CPL ) » OK
• Click the System Restore tab.
• Check - Turn off System Restore.
• Click Apply.
• Uncheck - Turn off System Restore.
• Click OK.

You have now flushed your previous System Restore points, so we will make a new one again since your computer is already clean.

• Go to Start » All Programs » Accessories » System Tools, and select System Restore
• In the System Restore prompt, select: Create a restore point
• Click Next
• Give a description to the new Restore Point. (Something like: Clean PC)
• Click Create
• Then close the window

3.) How to Prevent Re-Infection

Please take your time reading on this list, it is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.

• Windows Updates (a must!) - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this, open Internet Explorer, then and select Tools » Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
• Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
• AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
• SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
• SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
• IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
• Firewall (a must!) - It is definitely a must have. Two good free versions are Kerio and ZoneAlarm.
• Anti-Virus (a must!) - It is also a must have. Two good programs are Avast and AVG, they're both free.
  Note: You must only use 1 (one) AV because if you have 2 AVs, it will conflict with each other and will only make your system slow.
