Well, I am not sure how I got this situation, but it is here. On Oct 8th, my AVG Free Edition detected and removed a trojan from C:\windows\system32\ddcyvwt.dll. Since then, I have had pop-ups galore, including WinAntiVirusPro 2006, slow running IE, etc. I lready have AVG Free Edition, Spyblaster, and Ad-Adware Personal, and have run all those items. I have posted before, and you guys are great. So, here I am again. I have run all the scans as requested. Can't quite figure out what is happening and would love your help. Thanks.

Hi,

Please download VundoFix.exe to your Desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • It will make a log in C:\vundofix.txt, please include that in your next reply.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

=====================================

Please open HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and then place a checkmark beside each of these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SearchBar.htm
O9 - Extra button: EmpirePoker - {77E68763-4284-41d6-B7E7-B6E1F053A9E7} - C:\Program Files\EmpirePoker\EmpirePoker.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: EmpirePoker - {77E68763-4284-41d6-B7E7-B6E1F053A9E7} - C:\Program Files\EmpirePoker\EmpirePoker.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)
O16 - DPF: Win32 Classes -

After placing all the checkmarks, close all windows (except HJT), and then hit Fix Checked. When it finishes, exit HJT.

=====================================

I want you to set Windows to show hidden files and folders, click here to learn how.

=====================================

Locate and delete the following file(s), if present :
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SearchBar.htm
c:\keys.ini
c:\windows\sepsd.bin

=====================================

Locate and delete the following folder(s), if present :
c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006
c:\program files\Srng

=====================================

I see that Viewpoint is installed.

Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". In 2006, this may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present:
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
Then delete this folder, if present: C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

Hi Jag11,
Thanks for your quick reply. I really appreciate it.

I did try the VundoFix V6.2.6 before I sent my first post yesterday, and it came up with no infections. I went ahead and did as you asked and ran it again today, but again it showed no infected files found and no log to create. I performed the HiJackThis Scan as requested, and then removed the files requested. I also deleted the files you as for, though the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SearchBar.htm was not present to remove. I removed ViewPoint as you said. So, here is the new HiJackThis Log:

Hello. :whistling:

Looks like this is a new Vundo file. Let's submit it for further analysis.

Please go here to upload a suspicious file for analysis.
  • Enter your username from this forum
  • Copy and paste the link to this thread
  • Browse for this filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cnvdle.dll in the first filename box
  • In the comments, please mention that I asked you to upload this file
  • Click on Send File
=====================================

Don't do the instructions below if you had problems with submitting the file.

Download Killbox
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select Delete on Reboot.
  • Click on the All Files button.
  • Copy the words below (inside the box) by left clicking and covering all the text then right click inside the highlighted area and choose Copy:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cnvdle.dll

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the Unregister .dll Before Deleting button.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes when prompted to restart your computer.
NOTES :
  • If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
  • If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.
=====================================

Please open HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and then place a checkmark beside each of these entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BA5E8017-3773-4877-BF2B-4D3D9298DD01} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cnvdle.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: cnvdle - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cnvdle.dll

After placing all the checkmarks, close all windows (except HJT), and then hit Fix Checked. When it finishes, exit HJT.

=====================================

Then post a new Hijackthis log. :blink:

Hello Jag11,
Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, but work got the better of me. OK, I was ble to upload the file requested after I made uploadmalware.com a trusted site, and had no problems doing so. It asked me to make you aware that the file requested was uploaded. I then performed the Killbox request, and had no problems. It rebooted without issue. I did the HiJackThis scan, and fixed and the checked mark items as you requested. Here is the latest log after this was done:

Good job! :blink:

Your log looks clean now Chip. :whistling:

Now that you're clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

1.) Re-Hide System Files and Folders:
  • Click Start
  • Open My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • Select the View tab
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option
  • Click Yes to confirm
  • Click OK
2.) Reset and Re-enable your System Restore

We need to do this to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)
  • Click Start » Run » ( type: SYSDM.CPL ) » OK
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check - Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply.
  • Uncheck - Turn off System Restore.
  • Click OK.
You have now flushed your previous System Restore points, so we will make a new one again since your computer is already clean.
  • Go to Start » All Programs » Accessories » System Tools, and select System Restore
  • In the System Restore prompt, select: Create a restore point
  • Click Next
  • Give a description to the new Restore Point. (Something like: Clean PC)
  • Click Create
  • Then close the window
3.) How to Prevent Re-Infection

Please take your time reading on this list, it is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Windows Updates (a must!) - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this, open Internet Explorer, then and select Tools » Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • Firewall (a must!) - It is definitely a must have. Two good free versions are Kerio and ZoneAlarm.
  • Anti-Virus (a must!) - It is also a must have. Two good programs are Avast and AVG, they're both free.
    Note: You must only use 1 (one) AV because if you have 2 AVs, it will conflict with each other and will only make your system slow.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein.
